Green Party Autumn Bike Ride

  • 100 Michael Cowpland Drive Kanata, ON, K2M 1P6 Canada (map)

Join local Greens for a ride from south Kanata to Stittsville.  We plan to ride west along the TransCanada trail from Eagleson Rd to Village Park Square in Stittsville, where there is lots of space to spread out with your packed lunch or snack, or you can pick something up from local shops. More ambitious riders can set out earlier and ride past Stittsville before turning around and returning to Village Park Square to join the others. After lunch, we’ll all ride back to Kanata, or wherever your travels take you.

The rain date is Sunday, October 2.

We plan to meet in the large parking lot at the southwest corner of Eagleson Rd and Michael Copeland Dr, in front of the Good Life gym. We have three routes planned depending on your time, ability and ambition (see maps below):

  • Level 1 (The wicker basket cruisers, Total distance 11 km): Ride directly along the Canada Trail to Village Square Park in Stittsville; departing at ~10:30; 5.5 km to Village Park Square; estimated time of 25 mins each way;

  • Level 2 (The average keeners, Total distance 24 km): Ride along the Canada Trail to Jinkinson Road and back to Village Square Park in Stittsville; departing at 10:00; 12.0 km outbound to Jinkinson Rd & 6.5 km back to Village Park Square; estimated time of 1 hr;

  • Level 3 (The clipless speedsters, Total distance 33 km): Ride along the Canada Trail to Dwyer Hill Road and back to Village Square Park in Stittsville; departing at 9:45; 17.0 km outbound to Dwyer Hill Rd & 11.5 km back to Village Park Square; estimated time of 1.25 hr.

You are of course welcome to plan your own route. And non-riders are welcome too. Walk, skate or roll along the TransCanada Trail or around Stittsville or just join us to socialize and enjoy the weather. Just aim to be at Village Park Square around 11am.

Here are the longer Level 2 and 3 routes, which continue further west, before returning to Village Park Square:

Did you know that the TransCanada Trail west of Stittsville contains markers for the sun and planets, scaled to their distance from the sun? Look for them beginning at Westridge Road.
