What is the Kanata-Carleton Greens Executive?

The Kanata—Carleton Green Party is holding its Annual General Meeting in October.

Would you like to know what we do? Would you like to join?

About the Associations: The purpose of the associations is to help foster an active Green Community in the riding, to fund-raise for the next election and to help local Green Party members select a candidate to best represent the riding. There are two separate associations: one federal, called the Electoral District Association, and one provincial, called the Constituency Association. The EDA and CA are separate entities reporting to Elections Canada and Elections Ontario respectively. The federal EDA is governed by this constitution. The provincial CA is governed by this charter and these bylaws.

About the Executive: The Executive is responsible for running the EDA and CA to achieve their purpose. We operate a joint federal-provincial executive: the federal and provincial officer positions are not shared; however the remaining roles are combined in the interests of efficiency. We meet monthly.

About the Roles: We have the following positions:

  1. Chief Executive Officer (EDA) and President (CA): organizes regular meetings, builds the executive where needed, and oversees the operation of the EDA

  2. Financial Agent (EDA) and Chief Financial Officer (CA): maintains the books, issues tax receipts, and prepares and files the annual financial report with Elections Canada and Elections Ontario.

  3. Secretary: takes and distributes the minutes from Executive meetings

  4. Mobilizing (Volunteers): maintains relationships with volunteers; manages plans to build mobilizing capacity; and works with organizing and/or membership coordinators

  5. Organizing (Events): leads planning and execution of events

  6. Money (Fundraising): manages and plans fundraising activities

  7. Messaging (Communications): builds relations with media and maintains visibility; oversees internal communications

  8. Membership (Liaison): maintains relationships with members

  9. Member-at-Large: takes on projects or initiatives and assists the team as required

In practice, we all work together as a team sharing ideas and combining our skills to promote the Green Party in Kanata-Carleton and the surrounding area. You can find the current Executive here.
